As First Lady of Virginia from 2014-2018, Dorothy McAuliffe led innovative partnerships linking locally grown agriculture, education, health, and nutrition initiatives across diverse sectors. She has been nationally recognized for her efforts to eliminate childhood hunger by championing the expansion of federal child nutrition programs. Mrs. McAuliffe’s advocacy resulted in a state investment of nearly $5M to help Virginia schools adopt “breakfast after the bell” programs. Over four years, her leadership achieved an increase of over 12 million school breakfasts served to Virginia students per year, as well as growth in after-school and summer meal programs for students in need. She also drove Virginia’s efforts to expand the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), sparking a 384% increase in school participation and ensuring more than 200,000 Virginia students have access to free school meals.
